Sian uses various pieces of equipment for electric and acoustic performances. The following recommendations do not come lightly and are Tried Tested and Trusted over the years ... because they work and rarely fail.

"After having a split in my peg box diagnosed, I was recommended these  pegs because they would disperse the tension on the wood. I love them! They make tuning and detuning for scordatura, baroque and bagpipe pitching, a doddle!"

"Rat stands are so easy to use, pack and store. Yes, they are reassuringly expensive, robust, practical and beautiful - no sticky out legs!"

"These are funky whippy and great to use on stage. Virtually indestructible, they make playing a colourful joy"

"Opera Jade Rosin is grippy, not too sticky and green! It's price range is higher than the usual suspects sold, but it actively reduces bow hiss on the strings."

Sold by John Carpenter Violins

"I have two Bridge Electric Violins. a Lyra 5 string that I really enjoy using for band work and playing jazz because of the extra low C string: the other is an Octave which gives a really creamy sound an octave below normal violin tuning.

"I started using these strings on my acoustic violin in 2001 and havent looked back. My violin doesnt wolf and sings wonderfully. They are mid range priced and have my full recommendation"

"The name in guitar pedals, and perfectly suitable for electric violin work. I use Digital Reverb, Auto Wah, Chorus, along with a Boss multipedal power supply.

"I also use a Volume pedal and a DI Box - all packed into both the BCB-60 (see below) and the Kingsman pedal board (see bottom of page).  hese are available from any good dealer or Ebay."

"This is the perfect case for me. I found it on Ebay and paid a very reasonable price for what has now become an essential piece of equipment. It's like a plug and play tool - because you set it up and it remains!"

EDB-1 Acoustic Preamplifier - You can completely shape your sound with the interactive EQ, switchable input impedance and three way Range Switch, offering acoustic Guitar, Bass or Violin settings, which cut unwanted low end tones, below the useable frequency range of the instrument. This cuts body handling noise, unwanted resonaces, feedback and Violin bowing noise. Feedback and other resonance problems may be further tackled by a very effective, broad ranging tunable notch filter and a Phase Reverse control.

This Violin Pick-up features a miniature vibration transducer cast right into the bridge. As an integral part of the bridge, it effortlessly captures the inherent dynamics. Furthermore, it's selective admittance pattern is aligned so that the signal is generated as the bridge moves in a left-right motion (in response to the string vibrations). The transducer also rejects any impulse directed to the plane of the bridge, minimizing annoying finger squeaks, body noise and feedback.
